Newly proclaimed as one of
the "New 7 Wonders of Nature", Underground River lies at the western
coast at the heart of the Palawan Island, situated at the "City with a
Forest", Puerto Princesa City. This made me and my friends decide to visit
and explore one of the "cleanest" cities in the Philippines last
March 4-7, 2012. Fortunately, Cebu Pacific Air offers direct flight daily to
the subject (I think Air Phil Express as
well). The weather went well as I took the flight departing from Mactan
Cebu International Airport last March 4, 2012, Sunday, 11AM. It was an hour
flight and few minutes prior landing, the pilot did a nice route for allowing us
to have an overview of Honda Bay (I
always travel by choosing any of those window seats, thanks to that Web Check-in feature of Cebu Pacific Air).

I didn’t expect much
from the Puerto Princesa Airport since it’s just a domestic one (have heard there is a plan of having a new
international airport). What surprised me there (aside from no stable Sun Cellular network coverage) is that no
taxicabs anywhere in the island. Mode of transportation for public is via
tricycle (Php10 minimum fare) and was
nice to see them lining up in front of the airport to guide the visitors on
their hotel or destination. One more thing, the people are very accommodating
and hospitality-wise, they’re currently on top of my list. Lucky enough I
arrived (yes, I was the only one
departing March 4, my friends followed on a March 5 flight) there exactly
the day (my DAY 1) the city is celebrating their 8th Balayong Festival, a
simple festivity in the city where visitors are highly welcomed (no VIP pass needed to take shots or photos
closer to the performing group). Dancers from different parts of the city
participated thru dancing accompanied by live drumline and music (the most modernized festival, having “Moves
Like Jagger”, “Super Bass” remixed with a tribal music. WOW). You may refer
to below shots for the culminating activity of Balayong Festival 2012. (click photo to enlarge)
